GRENADINE

Reading of Neil Wechsler’s 2008 Yale Drama Award Winner, Grenadine, profiled on Broadway World! September 19, 2011

WHAT THE SPARROW SAID

Under the direction of Jenna Worsham, the cast, which also includes Brenda Currin, Lila Dupree, Heather Oakley, and Ruby Ruiz, handles Mitarotondo’s lyrical script with grace and just the right amount of levity.

New York Theatre Review

…an outstanding example of what the Fringe Festival is supposed to be all about.

Theasy.com

Standouts are Brenda Currin as Hannah (a non-speaking role!) and as an eccentric fellow traveller, and Heather Oakley as Cynthia, who brings a welcome touch of neurotic comedy to the proceedings.

The Happiest Medium

Jenna Worsham has elicited some fine performances, particularly Kevin Mannering’s delicately fevered Blaze; Matthew Michael Hurley’s sad-eyed, puzzled Dan; and Heather Oakley’s tightly longing Cynthia.

Backstage

Each of the actors brings a performance that is fully committed…Matthew Michael Hurley portrays Dan with a careful hesitancy that hints at the repressed passion underneath. [Hurley and Kevin Mannering] handle the tricky language and intense monologues well. Mannering deserves extra notice for bearing much of the linguistic burden and for his honest, deliberate pacing.

CONNECT FIVE

Prosser’s writing is funny and perceptive, and her performance, guided by director Kathryn Walsh, is authentic.

Backstage

Ms. Prosser…immediately charms the audience. The message here, so pure and simple, takes on an enchanted element when told through her voice. Under Kathryn Walsh’s direction Prosser was able to finely balance this piece at the nexus of loss and triumph, hope and heartbreak, determination and doubt… [The play is] complete from beginning to end and imbued with the passion of renewal.

The Happiest Medium

Promising work is featured.

TheaterMania

[The Common Tongue’s] mission of creative unity is invigorating and inspiring… The poetic quality [of the plays] enhances the content, making the (mis)communication all the more potent.

Theater is Easy

Last Night is a scorching two-hander.

TheaterMania

Commendably acted by Sarah Kauffman and Michael Pantozzi.

Backstage

Director Shannon Fillion stages the action convincingly, and Lila Dupree and Kathleen Littlefield are excellent.

Backstage

…The Room and a Richard is an intriguingly stylized play that concerns a young man (an engaging Blaze Mancillas)…[and]…the dead man’s sister, played with vinegar and verve by Heather Oakley.

TheaterMania

Lila Dupree is consistently solid.
